Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 16, 2026
We will never sell your personal data to third parties. Your information is used solely to provide and improve our services.

1. Introduction

BackQuant ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it. By using our services, you agree to the practices described here.

2. What We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and basic profile information. Authentication is handled by secure third-party providers. We do not store your password.

Usage Telemetry

We collect anonymous usage telemetry to understand how the terminal is used in aggregate, debug failures, and prioritise what to build next.

What we collect. Telemetry events are limited to a fixed allowlist of event types, such as opening a panel, running a command, sending an AI question, an AI tool being called, navigating between routes, or changing a setting. Each event carries a timestamp, a session identifier generated in your browser, the app version, and a small set of categorical or numeric properties (for example, which panel kind, which command verb, which AI provider, how many tool calls fired, and token counts). When you are signed in, your account user ID is attached server-side so we can compute per-user usage metrics.

What we do not collect. We do not capture the content of your AI chat messages, the inputs or outputs of any AI tool call, your AI provider API keys (which live only in your browser's local storage), the content of any search or command-line input, panel parameters that contain free text, or any other free-form text you type. The telemetry layer enforces a categorical or numeric contract at the source; any string field is truncated at 200 characters and any non-allowlisted property is silently dropped before the event leaves your browser.

Legal basis. We process this data on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating, securing, and improving the service. The data is not sold and is not used for advertising or profiling.

Storage and retention. Telemetry events are stored on BackQuant infrastructure and are automatically deleted after 365 days. Aggregated metrics derived from the events (for example, daily active users or top panels by week) may be retained longer in aggregated form.

AI providers. No telemetry is shared with the AI providers you connect (such as Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google). Those connections happen directly from your browser to the provider using your own API key, and the contents of those exchanges are governed by the provider's own terms and privacy policy.

Your choice. Telemetry is on by default and you can turn it off at any time in AI Settings under "Anonymous usage telemetry". The choice persists across reloads and is synced across open tabs. When telemetry is off, no new events are queued and any pending events in memory are dropped. Previously collected events remain subject to the retention period above; to request earlier deletion, email admin@backquant.com.

3. Payment Processing

BackQuant does not store, process, or have access to your credit card numbers, bank account details, cryptocurrency wallet credentials, or other payment credentials. All payment processing is handled by one of three external processors, depending on the method you choose at checkout.

Stripe handles card payments, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Link. Card details are sent directly to Stripe and are subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy. We only receive confirmation of successful transactions, the last four digits of the card, and basic billing information.

PayPal handles PayPal subscriptions. We never see your PayPal account credentials or the funding source you select within PayPal. PayPal manages billing on our behalf and shares only the information needed to keep your subscription active (payer email, subscription identifiers, transaction confirmations). Your use of PayPal is governed by PayPal's Privacy Statement.

NOWPayments handles cryptocurrency subscriptions. NOWPayments emails you a payment link at the start of each billing period; the payment itself happens directly on-chain to a BackQuant payout wallet. We receive only the transaction details (currency, amount, payment status, on-chain transaction reference) needed to activate access. Your use of NOWPayments is governed by NOWPayments' Privacy Policy. BackQuant does not retain wallet addresses except as part of transaction metadata used for support and reconciliation.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and maintain our services
  • Process transactions and manage your subscription
  • Send service-related communications
  • Improve our products based on aggregated usage patterns
  • Respond to support requests
  • Comply with legal obligations

5. What We Don't Do

  • We do not sell your data under any circumstances.
  • We do not store payment details because all payment data is handled by Stripe.
  • We do not track you individually because usage analytics are aggregated and anonymised.
  • We do not share data for advertising and we do not work with ad networks or data brokers.

6. Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party services to operate BackQuant:

  • Payment processing: Stripe (cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link), PayPal (PayPal subscriptions), NOWPayments (cryptocurrency subscriptions)
  • Authentication: Secure third-party authentication providers
  • Hosting and infrastructure: Cloud service providers
  • AI model providers (optional, user-supplied): Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google are available as model providers inside the BackQuant AI assistant when you supply your own API key for them. Those connections are made directly from your browser to the provider. BackQuant does not proxy, store, or have access to the contents of your AI conversations. Your use of each provider is governed by that provider's own terms and privacy policy.

These services have their own privacy policies. We only share the minimum information necessary for them to perform their functions.

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Withdraw consent for optional data processing

To exercise these rights, contact us at admin@backquant.com.

9. Children's Privacy

Our services are not intended for individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

10. Changes & Contact

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted here with an updated date. Continued use of our services constitutes acceptance of any changes.
